Located in the Torres Strait Islands archipelago, off the coast of Papua New Guinea, this remote project demanded an innovative approach to become a reality for the Queensland Government.
Hutchies proposed a modular design and construction solution that could be fabricated to a high standard in Australia and transported to Saibai Island. We used robust materials and finishes to withstand the elements of the island and minimise ongoing maintenance requirements for Queensland Health.
We partnered with HY to undertake the civil works on site, while we built and planned the enormous transport logistics requirements. We moved the modules by road from our Yatala Yard to very top of the Cape in North Queensland before they were barged over to Saibai Island. The massive unloading and install on site took four days.
